{UAH} What develops a country?

What develops a country?
By Timothy Kalyegira

Ugandan Indians...

- Don't have any district.
- Don't have any women MPs.
- Don't have any cabinet ministers.
- Don't have any High Court judges.
- Don't have any directors of intelligence.
- Don't have any LC 5 chairman.
- Don't have any Permanent Secretaries.
- Don't have any town mayors.
- Don't have any presidential flag bearers.
- Don't have any army generals.
- Don't have any noticeable social media presence.
- Don't have any ministers of state.
- Don't have any political party.
- Don't have any heads of government agencies.
- Don't have any TV or radio talk shows of their own.
- Don't have any State House jobs.
- Don't have any senior police officers.

Indians are less than 0.1% of the Ugandan population...

...But 69% of all domestic revenue collected by Uganda Revenue Authority comes from Indian businesses.

Given all this, do we not waste time...

- Lobbying for districts.
- Lobbying for federo or a regional tier.
- Lobbying for our semi-dead towns to be granted city status.

Or...

- Thinking that having cabinet ministers develops our regions.
- Thinking that government jobs will develop our districts.
- Thinking that more and more MPs will develop us.
- Thinking that "regional balancing" makes much difference.
- Thinking that political representation can solve our problems.
