{UAH} Lindsey Graham Could Lose His Senate Seat In 2020, After Democratic Challenger Has Nearly Tied Him In Latest Poll
Liddle Lindsey has to be freaking out.
Republican South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham seems to think his job is to defend Donald Trump amid the "president's" latest scandal, but his constituents aren't all-in for his reelection. Graham certainly has changed since Trump's election. In 2016, he tweeted, "If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed…….and we will deserve it," but now, he's even betrayed his friend John McCain by not calling out Trump after he attacks the late Senator.
Graham's career in politics looks shakey as he's found himself statistically tied with Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison, and the South Carolina Republican's favorability rating is plummeting with independent voters.
Graham has only a 2-percentage point lead over Harrison, 47 to 45 percent, in the red state. Ten percent of voters surveyed remain undecided. The Change Research/Post and Courier newspaper poll notes that Graham "looks extremely vulnerable against Democratic contender Jaime Harrison."
Graham did not do well in his favorability, with 38 percent of respondents viewing him very or somewhat favorably, and 53 percent of respondents viewing him very or somewhat unfavorably.
The poll also notes that South Carolina does not support impeaching Trump, however, "a majority of voters would like Senator Graham to approach the impeachment inquiry with an open mind, rather than leap to the president's defense before hearing evidence."
On CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday, Graham doubled down on a previous comment and said that he's ready to vote against removing Trump from office in a Senate trial, even before the House has held a full-body vote on articles of impeachment. On Saturday, Graham just came right out and said in an interview with CNN that he is "not trying to prete
"I am trying to give a pretty clear signal I have made up my mind. I'm not trying to pretend to be a fair juror here," Graham said. "What I see coming, happening today is just a partisan nonsense."
The poll had a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points so it could even be worse for Graham — or better, but Harrison is pulling in a bigly haul of donations. Graham's Democratic challenger is "armed with a record haul of campaign dollars," according to The Washington Post.
