{UAH} Throwback: Fourteen white Europeans kneel before Ugandan Head of State, Idi Amin Dada
Throwback: Fourteen white Europeans kneel before Ugandan Head of State, Idi Amin Dada, during a ceremony where they pledge allegiance to the leader in Kampala, Uganda in 1975. Of the fourteen, seven were Britons and one was Dutch.
Its interesting how people outside Uganda continue to speak venomously about Idi Amin, but, in Uganda itself, he is majorly considered a heroe especially among the youths, if not the greatest president Uganda has ever had since independence.I have read several stories on UGANDANS AT HEART(UAH) forum that indicate that Amin never tolerated corruption at all levels. There's one particular story from Mr.Mulindwa Edward(who is based in Canada), that caught my eye- its about a minister, whose name I've forgotten, who was given money to go and buy drugs in the UK for Mulago Referral hospital. On reaching the UK, he diverted money to his own stuff, but he made sure never to return to Uganda until Idi Amin was deposed in 1979. He knew what awaited him at home for misusing public funds.
Interestingly, Amin is still listed among the most corrupt African dictators in modern history- a man who never even built a simple house for himself and his family. Well, Mr.Museveni isnt on that list at all- we live in interesting times, don't we?
