Breaking news: North American markets surge on hopes that central banks will take action to offset the coronavirus The Dow Jones Industrial Average logs biggest point gain ever as North American stock markets surge on hopes that central banks will take action to offset the coronavirus. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1,293 points or 5 per cent to 26,703. The S&P 500 gained 136 points or 4.6 per cent to 3,090. The NASDAQ higher by 384 points or 4.4 per cent to 8,952. On Bay Street, the S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 290 points or 1.7 per cent to 16,553.
