{UAH} Do you agree with John Kazoora?
Do you agree with John Kazoora?
Letter to my PRESIDENT:
LONG LIVE SHAKESPEARE!!
I hope all is well with you...
Last night Uganda got glued to the TV set to follow your speech. Then you happened.Like Okonkwo after silencing Amalinze the cat in "Things Fall Apart",not only did you bounce but went on to pounce. How great this Corvid season is for you...the entire country now follows you - albeit painfully!
Humbly allow me respond to one issue which you enthusiastically lampooned - that of Shakespeare.
It is said that when politicians open their mouth to speak the first casualty is the truth...last night is testimony to that adage. You insinuated that Shakespeare - a metonymy for Literature and symbol of the Arts subjects is "bogus" in comparison to sciences.
Is it true that Literature and the Arts subjects are useless? If so how come you appoint Literature students as your advisors? Names like Don Wanyama(a very diligent servant), Karooro Okurut,John Nagenda(Uganda's Shakespeare), The good ol'Professor Timothy Wangusa(my Lecturer at Muk),Andrew Mwenda,Tamale Mirundi...among others.By the by,Mr President, are you a scientist? Are you useless?
Is Shakespeare the author of Uganda's problems as you insinuate? To say so would be to defy logic. In fact we need more Literature to equip our learners with creativity, critical thinking and application skills which seem scarce in our world.Shakespeare will aid in addressing the problem of producing graduates that lack critical thinking.
Its evil for a leader of your caliber to close your eyes from the real Cancer and shift blame on the Arts. Let's ponder on the following issues:
1.Do you have any strategic plan for the sick UPE and USE? How many doctors and Engineers can UPE and USE produce?Do your grandchildren attend these school?
2.How many science teachers do we produce as a country and do they satisfy the market?
3.How many government schools are equipped with laboratories, chemicals and lab technicians to help produce able scientists?
4.How much do you really pay our Teachers?
5.Apart from exporting House maids to the gulf does Ministry of labour really keep track of the job market trends and help advise universities to make adjustments?
6.What's your funding towards the education sector as compared to state House and Defense? How effective has this funding been?
7.What happened to our great traditional government schools? Who murdered them?
8.Has the quality of our Education improved under your regime or been buried?
9.Has education become cheaper under your regime?
10.Did any of your official children attend university education here in Uganda? We know they didn't. Why?
11.How many students does your government sponsor at universities? What is the ratio compared to the candidates and the number of government universities?
If you dont address the above questions you will continue chasing Shakespeare's ghost in futility. In blaming Shakespeare you are like an impotent man blaming a fertile wife for failing to give him children. Its foolhardy of us to use a razor blade to bring down a gigantic Muvule tree.Shakespeare wrote but did not author the follies of Nepotism, Corruption,Malice and Greed that not only characterise your regime but are responsible for the abyss we are wallowing in as a needy state!
A word to a wise is enough...
For God and My Country!
