HIGHLIGHTING TOORO HEROES—Dr. Richard Mugahi
----------------------
Dr. Richard Mugahi Adyeeri is a celebrated medical practitioner and a specialist in Health Systems and Global Health. He is one of the unsung heroes offering selfless service in the fight against CORONAVIRUS, coordinating the national quarantine centres. His team spends sleepless nights to ensure that those in institutional isolation live a comfortable life and the coronavirus does not spread to the rest of the population.

Born 41 years ago in Kisomoro the present-day Bunyangabu district (formerly Kabarole district), Mugahi attended Kisomoro Primary School, St. Leo's College Kyegobe for his O & A-Level education, Fort Portal Medical School and Makerere University. He further advanced to the University of Melbourne in Australia for his graduate degree. He is married to Dr Catherine Mugahi and they have 3 children.

Dr. Mugahi currently serves as the Assistant Commissioner of Adolescent Health and School Health in the Ministry of Health. Prior, he served as a civil servant in Kabarole District Local Government from 2001 to 2015, rising through the ranks from a clinician in charge Kasenda HC III to in charge Bukuku HC IV, then the District Director of Health Services.

Dr Richard Mugahi is the President of the Rwenzori Uganda Medical Association Chapter, Country representative on the Africa Junior Doctors' Network. He is also the Health Minister of Tooro Kingdom and sits on several boards of several institutions including National Medical stores, Virika Hospital, Kabarole Hospital among others.

Dr. Mugahi has won several individual awards and team awards including Best National Performing District in Health Services in 2012, Best District Ambulance Initiative 2012, Zero tolerance to corruption award (2013) by Rwenzori Anti Corruption Coalition, Best performing civil servant 2012, and Commonwealth Scholarship award 2014.

Dr. Mugahi has always been a leader, demonstrating characters worthy of imitation, emulation and inspiration. He was a student leader and an activist diocesan youth leader at St Leo's College Kyegobe, a guild speaker at Fort Portal medical school, President of Makerere College of Health Sciences and Finance Minister of the East African students Association. In 2016, he contested for the Fort Portal Municipality parliamentary seat and lost narrowly.

Dr. Mugahi has instilled in people - including the youth - hope for success with his extraordinary efforts and sacrifice. We need more leaders like Mugahi who can team up and create an everlasting impact in Tooro and Uganda at large. Let's SHARE his inspiring story with the world.
