{UAH} BREAKING: PAUL KAGAME LOCKS UP FIVE GENERAL OFFICERS
Five officers of the General Officers Corps of the Rwanda Defence Forces were arrested this week by Paul Kagame the President and Commander in Chief of the armed forces of Rwanda. It's not clear when they were picked because of the nature of the tension in Kigali and a lockdown and curfew that make flow of information difficult.
However, from a reliable source within RDF, these officers were arrested after a meeting of all officers in Command position from Company commanders to the Chief of Defence Staff that happened at Gako on Saturday 9th May 2020. Two of the officers who attended were also arrested.
The arrested officers include:
1. Gen. James Kabarebe, former CDF and Defence Minister. He is a graduate of Makerere University. He is currently an Advisor to the President on Defence and held different positions in RDF.
2. Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba, former Commander of UNAMID that operated in Darfur. Gen. Nyamvumba was Chief of Defence Staff of RDF from June 2013 to November 2019, when he was replaced by the current CDF, Gen. John Bosco Kazura
3. Lt. Gen Charles Kayonga. Gen Kayonga is a graduate of Makerere University then Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was CDF of the Rwanda military from 2010 to June 2013
4. Lt. Gen Karenzi Karake, He studied to St. Mary's College Kisubi and graduated from Makerere Law School. He headed the National Intelligence and Security Services or (NISS) before he was recently retired. He was the Head of Military Intelligence (DMI), after 1994, later became Deputy Commander of UNAMID Sudan then full Commander of UNAMID.
5. Major Gen Albert Murasira. He is or was the current Minister of Defence and the only Hutu officer in the General Officer's corps. In the recently held retreat, Paul Kagame mentioned his name and that of General Nyamvumba in what he called accountability issues then added that they might be on their way out.
