{UAH} MORE SACKINGS AHEAD: MUSEVENI MAN MUSINGUZI REPLACES KATESHUMBWA & OTHERS, DECLARES NEW ERA AT URA

By Mulengera Reporter

Newly appointed Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Commissioner General (CG) John Musinguzi Rujoki has confirmed changes at the Nakawa-based body responsible for the assessment and collection of taxes.

On Thursday, four officials resigned after a meeting of board of directors recommended reorganisation and management changes in the running of URA's operations in their May 28 meeting.

These were Domestic Taxes Commissioner Dicksons Kateshumbwa, Assistant Commissioner for Large Taxpayers' Office Silajji Kanyesigye, Commissioner for Tax Investigations Henry Martin Saka and tax auditor Sam Kahima.

On Saturday morning, Secretary to the Treasury Keith Muhakanizi told Capital Gang that "the changes at URA are decisions of the board members and are normal changes and I associate myself with the decisions of the board" because "the challenge at URA is not about changes but revenue collections which stand at about 13.6 per cent of GDP. We should be collecting 15 per cent to 16 per cent of GDP."

Confirming that the board had accepted the four senior officials' resignation, CG Musinguzi announced new changes that will take "immediate effect." He transferred Patrick Mukiibi from the position of Commissioner for Corporate Services to replace Kateshumbwa as Commissioner for Domestic Taxes. James Kizza will now hold Mukiibi's hitherto position in acting capacity.

The Commissioner General also picked Mathew Mugabi to replace Saka as Commissioner for Tax Investigations in acting capacity, and chose John Tinka Katungwensi to replace Kanyesigye as Commissioner for Large Taxpayers' Office in acting capacity.
