FBI-led task force will investigate sex assault allegations against officer involved in Breonna Taylor's death 
© Provided by WLKY Louisville Brett Hankison The sexual assault allegations made against an LMPD officer involved in the death of Breonna Taylor are getting a broader investigation.
Earlier this week, LMPD confirmed its Public Integrity Unit was investigating allegations of sexual assault and harassment made recently against Det. Brett Hankison on social media.
Sign up for our NewslettersOn Thursday, Mayor Greg Fischer said PIU is now investigating jointly under the auspices of the Kentucky Public Corruption/Civil Rights Task Force, which is led by the FBI.
Fischer said that task force consists of FBI, LMPD, Kentucky State Police and the attorney general's office.
Hankison is one of three officers who are accused in Taylor's death. Her shooting sparked outrage from the community, and fueled days of protests around the city.
He and the other officers, Sgt. John Mattingly and Det. Myles Cosgrove, are currently on administrative assignment.
The mayor said Hankison is a member of the Louisville Police Merit Board, to which he was elected. That board reviews disciplinary appeals, and consists of five civilians appointed by the mayor and two officers elected by the FOP.
Fischer said he has asked the River City FOP to remove him from the board and to not submit any cases to it for consideration until the matter is resolved.
They attorney of one of Hankison's alleged victims told WLKY Thursday before this announcement that they had sent a letter to Attorney General Daniel Cameron asking for help.
The mayor said the sexual assault investigation is not related to the Breonna Taylor death investigation.
