{UAH} How to keep your home safe

Robbery is currently on a rise especially in urban centers as the number of unemployed people is on a rise. To keep your property and people at home safe, home owners should do everything possible to tighten security. Here are a few step you do to keep your home safe from burglars.

Using CCTV cameras

Some people are financial capable to install CCTV cameras in their homes. This is one of the best ways to keep thieves from your home, John Muhindo  a security personnel notes that 80 percent of home theft is from the people we know. therefore if these people know there are CCTV cameras in a home, they will never attempt to steal.

Man power security

Have you seen a man gardening a home with arrows or a panga, have a man power to guard your home in case you have no money to install CCTV cameras. These people will keep your cars safe, and other home property.

Self Property

Muhindo notes that there is no better security than self security, he says security begins with, how close you get people to your home who later rob you, how do you keep you valuables, leave you car locked, lock your doors and windows at night, if you have a gate make sure it locked well before  you sleep or leave home.

"Empower people at home on who to interact with and how, not only with strangers but also the people you know. You don't need to trust everyone," he says.

You can consider other measures like setting an alarm in your car so that if someone touches it, it makes an alarm.

The Materials

Incorporate materials that will not let in robbers for example strong windows and doors, Burglar designs, use of electric wires on the fence among others. These should be strong enough that someone cannot easily break them.

Hire a security body

If you have the money, why not invest in the security of your people and property, Muhindo notes that we have many licensed security companies in Uganda which will give you a trained security guard at a reasonable fee.

"In places like Kampala where houses are very close to each other and some in the same gate, you can join finances and hire one guard,"Muhindo says.

Be Vigilant

Joan Mwiso a mother notes that since the people who rob us are the people close to us, she keeps an open eye on everyone. She doesn't allow people too close to and her children as tomorrow they are the very ones who will kidnap her children or rob her.
