{UAH} WHAT IS IN STANDING FOR PRESIDENCY?

WHAT IS IN STANDING FOR PRESIDENCY?

Nobody is degrading anybody who wants to stand for presidency—it's a free train-- anyone can board, and that's what's happening. Every Tom and Dick are getting on the train. Yes, it's good to have ambition/s, but we should try to be strategic about our ambitions. Nobody becomes a president in Africa before really planning for it. A lot of opposition leaders now are madly pushing these tried and true buttons already pressed by Kiiza Besigye since 2001,and they are not getting the desired reaction from some of us, because we have seen it all. There's nothing new they are offering. So, is it worth it for one to offer themselves for presidency in a hopeless process, as it is now in Uganda?

By the way, Besigye has never stopped anybody from getting on the train. Besigye's most salient qualities -- empathy, determination, consistency, decency, charisma, bravery, experience -- have always offered a valuable contrast to other opposition leaders, and that is why he is still a subject now yet he has stood four times. Those qualities have become even more pronounced in this period of Corvid 19, during which the cost of Museveni's narcissism, divisiveness, and inability to control corruption has come into sharper focus. You look at most of the people standing now, and you think,' what the hell is going on…None of them stands a chance against M7, and most are novices'. That is where people fall back on Besigye—particularly to come and save the situation--'TULEME KUSWALA NYO. Besigye isn't obsessed with standing for presidency--Every time he has stood, it was because he had no other choice.
