{UAH} Brutal conduct of LDUs is reprehensible and suspicious

Reports continue emerging of Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel using excessive force while implementing Covid-19 lockdown measures. The latest incidents include the manhandling of the Mityana LC 5 chairman, Mr. Joseph Luzige, judicial officers in Mbale and a lady witness in Njeru who was roughed up.

The acts by the LDUs are in contravention of the directives of H.E the NRM National Chairman, President Yoweri Museveni, and the Constitutional provision against torture.

H.E the NRM National Chairman did not command enforcers to beat people but to detain and caution them.

The brutality of the LDUs was raised with the IGP last night and those involved have been taken in for questioning.

The matter is further being raised with Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema to establish the motive behind the anti-people behavior displayed by the personnel in uniform.
