Exhuming of bodies of stillborn babies rock Zambian capital

LUSAKA, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Bizarre incidents of bodies of stillborn babies being exhumed at cemeteries have rocked Lusaka, the Zambian capital, local authority said on Tuesday.

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) said it has learnt with shock that some unscrupulous people were exhuming bodiless of stillborn babies at cemeteries for unknown motives.

George Sichimba, the Public Relations Manager said the unethical act was suspected to be done at night as such discoveries by local authority workers were being made in the morning when they report for work.

He said in a release that findings have established that the people behind the act were cutting umbilical cords and other parts from the bodies for unknown use.

The local authority, working with the police and watch groups, has since intensified patrols in the cemeteries, he added.

The local authority has since urged members of the public to report any illegal activities happening in the cemeteries and warned that anyone who will be found loitering in the cemeteries at awkward hours will be apprehended. Enditem
