RUKUNGIRI-The Microfinance Support Center has delivered 150 pigs to 63 groups and individuals in Rukungiri District with expectations to donate more pigs.

This project has been implemented in partnership with Rukungiri Producers Cooperative Union which unites all farmers located in Kigaaga Nyakagyeme Sub County .

Speaking at the function to receive the  pigs, Rukungiri Chief Administrative Officer Elias Byamungu thanked President Museveni for ensuring  that the project was implemented and thinking about the welfare of the  people with projects inline with poverty eradication.

Byamungu thanked the farmers for responding to the government call for poverty eradication and supporting the government initiatives and urged them to handle what they received  with care bearing in mind that it is meant to eradicate poverty in our country.

Speaking at the same function Rukungiri LC 5 Chairman Charles Andrewson Kateebire thanked the government and Microfinance Support Center for such a thoughtful project to increase household income.

Mr. Katebire advised the farmers to work hand in hand with Operation Wealth Creation for better results.

He urged people to engage themselves in profitable enterprises to improve production and value addition and  he pledged full assistance in mobilisation and elsewhere.

Rukungiri Producers Cooperative Union representative Ainamani Gidson who represented the Executive Director Peter Mujuni called upon farmers for the diversification of their  income generating projects in order to get bigger returns .

He however warned them against feeding on seeds and thus they should not sell or eat the pigs before the project cause is realised.

He informed the farmers that this is a revolving project and every after birth, two piglets will be taken back to the breeding center to benefit  the rest of the members in the project.

On the same function, Mr Boaz Tuhumure,  the regional Manager Microfinance Support Center for Kigezi Sub Region informed the people that Microfinance Support Center said that Ugx 11.8 billion has been disbursed to Rukungiri District.

He assured groups that they are ready to train them to fight financial illiteracy and this project will last for 3years. Rukungiri District Principal Agricultural Officer, Mr.Onek Pius said that the price for commercial feeds is expected to rise due to increased demand and therefore advised farmers to plant some local feeds as a supplement to commercial feeds.
