{UAH} Arua Fracas: Bobi Wine says Museveni’s recent comments will be used against him in ICC

Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has said that President Yoweri Museveni's recent remarks on the Arua fracas will be used against him in the International Criminal Court (ICC).

President Museveni, while passing out Police trainees at the Police Training School in Kabalye, Masindi on Friday said that the Special Forces Command (SFC), acted professionally when they were 'provoked' by Kyagulanyi, and beat him 'in a good way.'

Speaking at the National Unity Platform head offices in Kamwokya on Tuesday, Kyagulanyi said that he is thankful to God, the President Museveni was finally able to say the truth, without any coercion.

Kyagulanyi said that the President's remarks will be used against him in both domestic and international courts.

Kyagulanyi said, "I thank God, that he (President Museveni) gave the truth to the whole world. I hope our courts can use this as evidence."

"We are going to use that as evidence to take him to the ICC. Our lawyers, both in Uganda and across borders are preparing a case."

Kyagulanyi said that although he doesn't have so much confidence in the country's courts of law, their legal team will try to take the matter to the courts in Uganda as well.

The unfortunate events in Arua saw at least 33 people including lawmakers Bobi Wine, Kassiano Wadri, Francis Zaake and Paul Mwiru getting arrested in August 2018 for allegedly throwing stones at the presidential convoy.

Later, it emerged that most of the detainees had been tortured by security agencies during their arrest.

Kyagulanyi's driver Yasin Kawuma was shot at and died instantly in the fracas

Several opinion leaders, lawyers and human rights activists condemned the torture and asked government to arrest and prosecute individual security officers who were involved.

Opposition strongman, Dr. Kizza Besigye also said in a tweet that President Museveni's remarks will be used as additional evidence in his petition to the ICC.

Besigye said, Additional evidence for our petition to the ICC. The earlier he's indicted, the safer our country and Africa will be."
