{UAH} IRONY AS FDC UNVEILS NATIONAL CAMPAIGN TASK FORCE WITHOUT INGRID TURINAWE BEING ON IT
By Mulengera Reporters
Using their weekly press conference, Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA)'s FDC party today Monday unveiled its national campaign campaign taskforce indicating the key actors who will be in charge of the different things in the party's efforts to win as many votes during next year's general elections as possible.
It's a list of 284 activists campaign strategists and leaders but ironically the legendary iron lady Ingrid K Turinawe, who many have always perceived to be the queen of defiance, an approach FDC fanatically espouses, doesn't feature anywhere yet she officially remains the party's chief for mobilization.
"That shows how uncompromising the FDC party is when it comes to enforcing discipline. She lost the party primaries for flag bearer for Rukungiri Municipality and insisted on standing as an independent which simply is the reason why she is being kept away from key party activities, and these are circumstances she must be appreciating already having been a strong advocate of having these rules respected regardless of who one is," says a top FDC official adding: "It's not that anybody hates her: she deeply understands how strictly such party rules have to be adhered to."
Other sources said Ingrid initially had a lot of hopes in her petition challenging the outcome of party primaries in Rukungiri but still nothing much came out of it, a thing that understandably made her feel demoralized and she is currently focusing on becoming the next Rukungiri Municipality MP ahead of the party's official candidate (Dr. Warren Nuwagaba Tumwine).
All this, coupled with strong party rules, could the be the reason why her name couldn't be anywhere on POA's list. In fact, having her feature anywhere would have caused the top party hierarchy to be accused of favoritism and double standards because the same rules have previously been applied on many others in Arua, Kyaddondo East etc very strictly.
WHO IS WHO?
On the list is Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa serving as Director General deputized by West Nile's Kaps Fungaroo and Roland Kaginda Mugume. The Executive Director is Wyclif Bakandonda; the former Chief Administrator for FDC headquarters who replaced the late Louis Otika. He is also the confidante who helped Dr. KB identify Kato, his current driver. Love him or hate him, the deeply spiritual Bakandonda is a seasoned administrator and is simply the best POA would find for that ED role.
Phillip Wafula Ogutu is the Chief Campaign Advisor and Salaam Musumba is serving as Chief Campaign Monitor and Quality Assurance. Cecilia Ogwal heads the Presidential Advisory Council which has 12 other elders representing the different regions of Uganda.
Other key campaigners for the FDC/POA campaign include Mzee William Mukaira, Semujju Nganda, Jack Sabiiti, LoP Betty Aol Ocan, William Nzoghu, Joyce Sebugwawo, Erias Lukwago, Dr. Stella Nyanzi, Busia Mayor Amin Sadiq Agere, Prince Dickson Wasajja (Diaspora), Christopher Achire, Reagan Okumu, Franka Akello, Anthony Akol, Omer Paul, Aret Samuel, Dr. Frank Nabwiso, Geofrey Ekanya, Isaiah Sasaga, Nandala Mafabi, Joseph Chemonges Alfred, Francis Mwijukye, Francis Epetait, Betty Bamukwatsa Muzanira, Moses Tugume, Ajuna Daaka, Tonny Harold Muhindo, Jimmy Kanaabi, Robert Sekajja, Mzee Mukalazi Kibuka, Kayemba Afaayo, Mubarak Munyagwa, Doreen Nyanjura, Simon Muyanga Lutaaya, celebrity journalist Miles Rwamiti Apuuli and others. In total, the list has 284 managers and coordinators who will oversee district, Sub County and village-based teams.Publicity Committee member John Kikonyogo says the candidate (POA) has already procured mobile tents and will be sleeping in open play grounds inside his tents and other members of his campaign entourage without having any need to spend on hotels. Kikonyogo says that being a political villager, as detractors once described him, this approach will create additional proximity between POA and his fellow villagers scattered in the more than 68,000 villages across Uganda.
