{UAH} THE TRANSFORMATION OF GULU UNIVERSITY
Gulu University, the highest learning institution in Northern Uganda that started in 2002 is walking along the path of a much needed transformation and development. The University that was previously manned by one of its advocates Prof. Jack Nyeko Pen-Mogi is bit by bit upgrading to an utmost state of development, a vision to which its founders must really be proud of. In a space of less than five years, a visitor to the institution can finally give an impression everyone gives on visits to top national Universities. From having then old dilapidated buildings, dusty murram roads and poor service delivery, you will be totally amazed with the changes that shall grace your sight. The university now has tarmac lanes all over campus and street lights as part of a partnership with Chinese Construction Company, three new functional blocks officially opened by the president of the country; the faculty of Agriculture, main library and multifunctional laboratory. To the joy and comforts of every student, they can now use the students portal to do registration and access other services. For the first time in her history, the university hosted the president, who was the chief guest among other visitors to grace her 15th graduation on 11th January, 2020. On this historical day, the fountain of honor made pledges and promises that kept every lover of the university tuned. He promised a teaching hospital, one hundred million shillings for the staff SACCOs and land for expansion amongst others. For a university with a new guild van, green environment and harnessed competition in the job market, probably the greatest boost landed on Friday 4th September, 2020. They received a brand new Toyota model ambulance worth two hundred sixty million for staff and students referral. Fig 3: University Ambulance
This comes as a much needed development for a community whose health facility is not clearly defined and grapples with a lot of health related challenges. There is surely a lot to expect from Gulu university whose administration and elected student leadership show no signs of looking down this path of growth. Credit goes to all bodies that are giving a hand to these initiatives notably the current administration headed by vice chancellor Professor George Openjuru Ladar, stakeholders like MasterCard foundation and above all the government of Uganda.
