National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has suspended his presidential campaigns until the Electoral Commission (EC) explains to him why his rallies are being stopped by security personnel.
Bobi Wine says he is going to meet EC bosses tomorrow to demand for an explanation on why they are keeping quiet as security continues to torment him.
Today, while campaigning in Kayunga and Jinja, several members of Bobi Wine's campaign team were seriously injured and are currently nursing wounds after having a fierce engagement with security personel.
Among those injured are producer Dan Magic, who was seen bleeding from both the nose & ears and Afande Kato, who heads the Security detail that was given to Hon. Kyagulanyi by the EC.
"The police and military have attacked us yet again, shot and injured many of my team members and other Ugandans who gathered to wave to me in Kayunga. My friend and producer Dan Magic has been hit in the face! ASP Kato, a police officer attached to me has also been badly injured. Many comrades are gravely injured," Bobi Wine reported.
"Our lives are in great danger," Bobi Wine further reported, disclosing that after blocking his campaign in Kayunga, on the way to Jinja, the police and military blocked the main road and diverted him and his team to a remote road.
"When they thought no one was watching, the police and military shot the tyres of my car and directly into our windscreen, narrowly missing Hon Zaake and my driver," he added.
He said, "The struggle for freedom and democracy is worth every pain," adding that ultimately, the people of Uganda will triumph and thrive under his reign as president.
"Like I said a few days ago, we start every day not knowing how it will end. We come in peace to preach our message, but the military responds to us with brutality and violence. Yet in all this, we know that our struggle is a just one. Gen. Museveni will eventually understand that this country belongs to Ugandans," the youthful leader said, as he took his message of freedom to Kayunga, Jinja and Kamuli.
