{UAH} I have read JEEMA official Omar Kalinge-Nnyago signed statement with reservations!
By Ronald Muhinda
I have read JEEMA official Omar Kalinge-Nnyago signed statement with reservations! It contains one piece of truth and gross inaccuracies and, to the very least, I find it to be a misleading piece of political commentary!
First, no one in Uganda has explained for more than 20yrs how power and resources were captured by Museveni Junta like Kizza Besigye. No one.
In fact he goes further to explain that our power and resources have been captured for more than 120yrs. First by the Colonialists and later, by all post independence autocrats who have come to power through the power of the gun.
So it's true as Omar Kalinge-Nnyago says, politics is about sharing power and resources!KB explains it better that once your power is captured, the dictator takes away your right of decision making. Once your resources are captured, you are impoverished. Forexample, land.
What KB has never done and will never do, is to go to Mpororo or Kigezi or even Western Uganda and urge people to support him because he is one of them. He will never do it. That is promotion of tribalism.
To the contrary, he proposes to all the communities of Uganda where he goes, that we need a new consensus on how all the communities, that were once independent before Colonialists put us together, should be governed. That is why he has proposed a POLITICAL TRANSITION to address these historical problems.
Omar Kalinge, is one guy who spent alot of time with KB even when his wife (Aisha Kabanda) spent alot of time and energy attacking KB. At some point in 2013/14, his wife declared FDC Youths fighting unemployment rebels linked to ADF.
I would expect that he learnt alot from him. It appears to me that unfortunately, when KB speaks or spoke to him, he chose to understand him selectively or conveniently.
It's true Museveni has promoted sectarianism, more than any other person in Uganda. As a person from Ankole, where Museveni comes from, I have totally benefited nothing from Museveni. At my age, the only thing I have is my Rosary.
So it's not true that we are all the same from Western Uganda.
However, when we people from Western Uganda were fighting Museveni and other going to prison, Kalinge's wife Aisha Kabanda was a brutal RDC working for Museveni; harrassing, hounding and attacking Museveni opponents.
But we don't blame her since she has changed from Saul to Paul. And even when she was still Saul, no body ever said Kalinge and Museveni are the same.
What we must know is that people from Western Uganda (Ankole, Kigezi, Toro, Rwenzori and Bunyoro) are as affected by Museveni's dictatorship like people from Buganda, Busoga, Bugisu, Lango, Bukedi, Teso, Acholi, Madi, Sebei, Karamoja and Alur.
There are many Baganda, younger than me, who are extremely wealthy and yet they come from very poor families. They are wealthy because they work for Museveni.
There are many westerners of my age who are poor because they oppose Museveni.
The first President of Post Independent Uganda was the Kabaka of Buganda. He was not overthrown by Westerners. No. He was forced into exile and sadly died there by people who were held guns and none was from Western Uganda. Such barbarism was not executed by Westerners.
So we must address the injustices that have existed for more than 120yrs instead of attacking westerners, some of whom have had no role whatsoever in what has deeply divided us.
Kalinge is living in exile for about 3yrs now. But majority of the people who are genuinely on asylum are from Western Uganda, who are hunted by their own.
Kalinge has never opposed Museveni more than Joseph Tumushabe. Tumushabe has been in exile for over a decade. Tumushabe's contribution to struggle in politics and rule of law is enormous (Google him) and I can write hundreds others from Western Uganda who are hunted by their kin.
Museveni's vice dictator Edward Ssekandi is a Muganda. Museveni's chief disorganizer in Parliament Ruth Nankabirwa is a Muganda. No one has messed up Parliament more than Nankabirwa. Only Kadaga gets close. The man who messed up the judiciary Justice Steven Kavuma is a Muganda. The judiciary will take years to recover from Kavuma's mess. Kakoza Mutale, the man who established the worst organised paramilitary group Kalangala Action Plan (KAP), which beat up and maimed people is a Muganda.
Should we say Baganda are the same as Museveni? Of course not! Anyone with a weak mind can be used by a dictator. Besides, some of know what they have done, they didn't consult Buganda or Baganda. When Museveni is messing up, he doesn't do so on behalf of the people from Western Uganda. He doesn't even consult us.
The only solution is POLITICAL TRANSITION not seeking to eliminate or isolating westerners.
Political transition will achieve the following:
1. New Constitution,
2. Building new state institutions,
3. Truth telling and reconciliation,
4. Free and fair elections!
