SPEAKER REBECCA KADAGA ON NBS FACE OFF
1- NEED FOR INTERNAL MECHANISM IN NRM
Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, who is also the 2nd Vice Chairperson of National Resistance Movement, said the ruling party needs to exhaust internal mechanism to start handling national and topical issues and come up with a common position.
According to Kadaga, NRM, which has the mandate of voters, has the capacity to handle all matters in the country if commitments are made to address the issues. "We need to only make use of our internal mechanisms to start to deliberate and device a common position on some of the things affecting the country," said Kadaga.
The country has witnessed technocrats from different institutions like Police, Health Ministry and others mostly or wholly implementing and also guiding the population on even matters that have significant political connotations. The issues like social behavior and public discipline, as efforts to combat COVID-19, were not discussed by NRM organs .
2- AGE LIMIT GIVEN CHANCE TO YOUNG PEOPLE
Kadaga also said the many young people have been elected to become the Chairperson LC5, something which was not the case before when it was restricted to 35 years and above.
"I am happy to see a 28 year old being elected Chairman LCV in Mpigi. That one and many other examples are benefits of removing the age limit," said Kadaga.
She stressed that population only decided to focus on the upper limit and forgot to look at positive impact of removing the lower age limit.
"We should not ignore the positive impact the removal of the lower age limit has brought,'" said Kadaga.
