{UAH} Prof. Okurut: Questioned by a curious niece
Prof Okurut
-- I have a very curious little niece who loves reading a lot. Problem is, she isnt even close to me but far in the motherland.
I happened to videochat with her last night when she asked me a rather weird but honest question as far as I could see from her facial comport.
So, the question she asked was from the onset, qualified by an already existing answer.
Tanzania
Apparently she read somewhere that Tanzania is a combination of two countries, Tanganyika and Zanzibar. She did not use federation. I guess she isn't at that grade level yet considering her primary school status
I answered "Correct"
She continued asking that according to her history class Kenya and Uganda were also once one country
Again answered, correct. And this was when things flipped
What was it called? she asked. I thought she was testing me.
I said, British East Africa.
Her eyes blinked rapidly in disbelief and before she could fire back I said to her "That's true"
After a brief moment of doubt she came around to ask "that was its British name but it must have had an African name?
Just when I was about to surrender to her whims I immediately I remembered the Tanganyika-Zanzibar combo and came out with the country name
"Oh..! I now remember. It was called Kenyaganda" I said.
Her eyes rolled and popped as she immediately hanged up on me. She knew I made it up.
Next conversation with her will be a rough one
