{UAH} SOME MPS JUST USED BOBI WINE TO GET POLITICAL CAPITAL
By David Serumaga
Like the way the majority anticipated that a number of the National Unity Platform (NUP) political candidates were merely using the party principal, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine to help them acquire political positions and after they dump him, this anticipation has come to pass when the NUP top activist, Sauda Madada, who is also a close associate to Bobi Wine, confirmed to one online media channel that there are a lot of elected NUP Members of Parliament who no longer pick Bobi Wine's calls nor attend party functions.
Madada said that apart from Hon. Muhamad Ssegirinya and Aloysius Mukasa, the rest now seem to sideline Bobi Wine, something portraying their disloyalty towards their party leader. In the last concluded elections, NUP got 59 elected MPs which makes it to be the biggest opposition political party. It's ashaming that apart from a few, majority of them no longer see any future in Bobi Wine immediately after supporting and endorsing their candidature. However, all of those MPs made it to Parliament on Bobi Wine's popularity and the umbrella wave but not on the party principles or ideologies.
All the NUP MPs came closer to Bobi Wine or joined NUP not because they loved the party but because they wanted to use Bobi Wine to get parliamentary seats and then dump him. This can be seen even before people like Sauda Madada cried out to the public about the dishonesty of their MPs because majority of them are no longer seen with Bobi Wine like they used to be before elections.
I know that it hurts Bobi Wine to see the people he endorsed disappear and some of them refusing to pick his calls even before they are sworn in for the 11th Parliament. However, the NUP management should not cry too much over such behaviours because this can be a two-way mistrust whereby the MPs themselves are worried about the ability of Bobi Wine to be their leader.
Such mistrusts come when political parties like NUP do not have party structures and ideology that can drive supporters and leaders. Hon. Bobi Wine should know that his strong ties with the NUP MPs came to an end on January 14, 2021 and they no longer need his services. The leadership of supremacy and individualism cannot last for long because the public and the close team can identify their leader's weaknesses quickly and overturn them.--
