{UAH} PICTURE: HERE IS THE SIMPLE MAN WHO OVERTHREW UGANDA'S DICTATOR MILTON OBOTE IN 1971.

Picture: This is the simple man who overthrew President Milton Obote on 25th January 1971. His name is Moses Galla.
After being detained at Kampala's main military barracks in an ethnic purge ordered by Milton Obote before the Ugandan leader left for the Commonwealth meeting in Singapore, an order to essentially remove all other ethnic groups except Obote's from the army, Sgt. Moses Galla decided to mobilize his fellow detained soldiers and fight back. Thus it became a fight between Obote's group versus the rest of Uganda. Fearing for their lives, the Ugandan soldiers broke free from Obote's detention, then broke down the armoury, grabbed weapons, took over the barracks, then the capital city, then the entire country, all in under 48hours. In Uganda's first ever unsolicited handover of power, Sgt Moses Galla arrested his own commander Idi Amin in the process, and forced him at gun point to become president or be shot on the spot. The Staff Sergeant and his team then went to the national radio station the next day and announced to the people of Uganda the new President as Major General Idi Amin Dada.
While many claim that a power hungry monster called Idi Amin plotted a coup so as to grab power and appoint himself president, there was actually never any premeditated plan for a coup against anyone. It was an instantaneous fight for survival from heinous tribalism, Amin himself was under duress, and Milton Obote, the mastermind of the ethnic cleansing, brought the instantaneous counter-coup against himself.
The person who actually led the counter coup was an ordinary soldier who today lives a quiet rural life near Arua town. He didn't even want to take power or be president, but knew that in order to survive, he had to get a senior officer to replace Obote immediately or else they would all be killed on Obote's return from Singapore. That simple soldier who overthrew the entire Obote government was Moses Galla.
Not Idi Amin.
