{UAH} What are your thoughts on Canada’s new immigration levels plan for 2021–2023, including 401,000 permanent residents in 2021, 411,000 in 2022 and 421,00 in 2023?

Too few, if anything.

Canada is barely populated. Doug Saunders' book, Maximum Canada, lays out the pretty bad job we did with immigration until the 1960s. We almost entirely took white Europeans and then sent them to absolutely nowhere to break stony soil into fertile soil, die or leave for the USA. Thats why many decades saw us have negative population growth despite significant annual immigration.

In the 1960s we switched to points-based immigration and an official policy of multiculturalism, something that was an excellent choice and one that has made us the envy of the world in many respects.

However, we've throttled immigration far too much, and are still deeply underpopulated to be able to compete with other world economies. Saunders suggests, as a thought experiment, 100 million as a good number, which is almost three times what we have today.

Our immigration since the 1960s has made us rich, strong and vibrant, despite the racists commenting on this question. We are far better for it, but for some aging white men with limited education and skills, it's just another group of people that they find it difficult to compete with. They are grievance warriors, instead of reskillers and hustlers, and they whine about immigration from positions of ignorance and bias.
