{UAH} Dr.Kimala is special in his own way

By Abbey Kibirige Semuwemba, UK

If I were to try to compile a list of the 100 greatest medical doctors in Uganda, I would definitely list Dr. Adam Kimala as one of them.  A lot of great doctors are usually ranked by their innovation and influence, but Dr. Kimala should be remembered for being a real doctor.i.e. treating people to get better regardless of their social status or income.

As a kid, I remember my late grandfather, H.K, taking me to his clinic in Kampala every time I fell sick. I used to find all sorts of patients there waiting for him, and this is how I remember him -- a jovial companion, fond of making puns and playing practical jokes with the patients. Obviously, he got serious when he got down to business, or serious stuff.

I'm not surprised that he loves his Kabaka and kingdom so much, and that's how it should be. Buganda culture isn't so much different from the French culture in the past, and it mainly reflects good morals. Charles Rollin, rector of the University of Paris (1726-28), held that the chief goal of education is to make men better, and that good teachers prefer an honest man to a man of learning.

Dr.Kimala comes from a generation of good men. He reminds me of my former headmaster, Hajji Kawaaase Abasi. These guys aren't materialistic, they respect the old and young, they serve their kingdom, they never " kuwemula " in public, as is the case today. I'm glad Allah has blessed them with such a long-life ma sha Allah.

I think religion has helped Dr. Kimala to be a good man, something Rollin also agreed with when he said, " it is difficult to form moral character without basing it on religious belief".  In France, the peasants, who clung to their religion, lived a relatively moral life.
