{UAH} THE FRAUDLENT IS HANDLING THE BORDER JUST AS INCOPETENT AS HE HANDLED AFGHANISTAN
Biden is handling the border just as incompetently as he handled Afghanistan

President Joe Biden’s claim that it was “highly unlikely” the Taliban would overrun and own the whole of Afghanistan will go down in history as one of the worst judgments in presidential history. But it was nothing new. Biden has been equally incompetent all along in his handling of the southern border — it just took a catastrophic failure like the one in Afghanistan to draw attention to how incompetently he is performing in other areas.
Even worse, the danger from Biden's misjudgment at the border hits much closer to home.
“Nothing has changed,” Biden claimed when asked about the surge of migrants at our southern border this March. “It happens every single solitary year. There is a significant increase in the number of people coming to the border in the winter months of January, February, March. That happens every year.”
But the chaos currently unfolding at our southern border most assuredly does not happen every year. It is the result of significant changes Biden made to immigration enforcement policies.
Last week, the Department of Homeland Security announced that 212,672 migrants were apprehended on the southern border this July, a 21-year high. For comparison's sake, 82,000 were apprehended in July 2019 and 41,000 in July 2020. The situation is so bad right now that Homeland Security has had to expand the y-axis on its graph just to capture the record numbers of migrants caught crossing the border illegally.
Just as with their Afghanistan debacle, Biden’s minions try to put on a brave face in public. Just as Secretary of State Antony Blinken has gone on television claiming “the president was prepared for every contingency” in Afghanistan, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas held a press conference last week stating that his agency was confronting and meeting the current border crisis.
But in leaked audio obtained by Fox News, Mayorkas sang a different tune, telling Customs and Border Protection agents that the crisis is “unsustainable” and that “our people in the field can’t continue” like this.
This private assessment is much closer to the truth. Overwhelmed CBP agents are dumping busloads of migrant families into small towns throughout the Rio Grande Valley. In McAllen, Texas, more than 1,500 of the 7,000 migrants agents dropped off tested positive for COVID. In Laredo, the percentage of migrants testing positive reached 40% . And in the town of Mission, Texas, they have had to set up a tent city to house COVID-positive migrants.
It didn’t have to be like this. President Donald Trump had successfully secured the southern border by closing loopholes in U.S. immigration law that migrants had been exploiting to gain entry. Trump ended these “catch and release” policies by reaching a deal with Mexico under which migrants would wait there for their asylum claims to be adjudicated, then by using the COVID emergency Title 42 power to turn away all migrants at the border.
Biden ended both these policies on his first day in office. He also issued new rules to Immigration and Customs Enforcement making deportations within the United States nearly impossible. Deportations have since fallen to historic lows.
The signal sent to migrants around the world was crystal clear: If you come to the U.S. illegally, Joe Biden will let you in.
Just ask Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who told reporters earlier this year, “Expectations were created that with the government of President Biden, there would be a better treatment of migrants. And this has caused Central American migrants, and also from our country, wanting to cross the border thinking that it is easier to do so.”
It has been far easier for migrants to enter the U.S. under President Biden than it was under President Trump? Would Biden even deny this?
As in Afghanistan, the Biden administration let wishful thinking about the southern border get in the way of dealing with inconvenient realities. Just as Biden wrongly hoped the Afghan army would hold off the Taliban without U.S. air support, he also wrongly hoped that migrants from around the world would not abuse the asylum system to overwhelm the immigration system.
In neither case does Biden appear to be at all prepared to admit he misjudged reality. The voters may be much more willing to admit their misjudgment in electing him.
