{UAH} UPDF Speaks Out On Detaining Blogger Lumbuye At Gulu Military Base As Hunt For His Associates Intensifies…

Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) has cleared the air on allegations of detaining controversial blogger Fred Kajubi Lumbuye at Gulu military barracks.

On Saturday, Uganda bloggers Association Vice President Ritah Kaggwa authoritatively confirmed that Lumbuye was in Gulu.

She maintained that Lumbuye was deported last week and has been under interrogation over spreading harmful propaganda against president Museveni's government and different prominent people in the country.

The Observer newspaper also indicated that the army is looking for over eleven people who have been working with Lumbuye.  Kaggwa's allegations have been supported by NUP lawyers who were sent to Turkey to establish Lumbuye's whereabouts.

Lawyer Geofrey Turyamusiima told theGrapevine that his colleagues Anthony Wameli checked over 15 big police stations, prisons and foreign detention centres in big cities of Intanbul and Ankara but there was no record showing that Lumbuye was in any of them.

Turyamusiima added that as lawyers, they are still planning how they can legally access Gulu military barracks.

He said that after failing to establish Lumbuye's whereabouts in Turkey, they have decided to file a habeas corpus application in the High Court Civil Division an application to force the Ugandan government to produce him dead or alive.

Turyamusiima explained that they want to compel the State Minister for Foreign Affairs who confirmed that Lumbuye is in the hands of the government to produce him in court.

When contacted, Col. Ronald Kakurungu the deputy UPDF spokesperson said, "We don't have business with people of that category. You can check with the police or Ministry of Internal Affairs, not us."

Police publicist Fred Enanga last week informed journalists that they have prepared over 15 criminal files against Lumbuye.
