{UAH} Some of the Causes of Collapsing buildings in Uganda.
Some of the Causes of Collapsing buildings in Uganda.....
1. Developers/ Clients who down play the role of professionals in construction. To them its about who can do it cheaply! No due diligence nothing! Like the saying goes "A Fool and His Money Are Soon Parted"
2. Lack of strict laws from local authorities, professional bodies, trade unions, government etc. If u have money to bribe whoever is responsible, u will construct in any part of Uganda without approved plans! These bodies do not play their role as per the mandate given to them.
3. Professional moral decadence! Lack of ethics and integrity at work! Okubura amazima!!!!! You won the tender, why au not following the drawings & specifications as per contract? The column was designed to have 8 bars, why au putting six without any technically sound reason? You were appointed the supervisor why au not doing the adquate Supervision?
4. Qualified but inexperienced Engineers .Civil engineering is highly practical profession. Complex projects deserve experienced engineers. Juniors need to be supervised.
5. Poor construction methods. During the construction ,the building experiences many live and dead loads. It's at this point that the building needs to be supported by formwork, fale works etc since its weak and cannot be able to stand on its own. If the support is poorly done, it's automatic that the building will collapse!
6. Substandard construction materials. If you moved to many yards that manufacture blocks and u ask for compressive strength test results, a few will answer. For bricks its worse! Some iron bars when measured do not meet the designated diameters as manufactures claim. A T12 may be T11 in actual sense on top of breaking like spaghett. UNBS wake up!
