OBTAINING A SINGLE STATUS LETTER
So JACK BAUER was a renowned city casanovas who like to spend spend his free time at the Jakaranda Hotel swimming pool.
One sunny Friday, Sweet Nakii, the latest 'hottie' of the area, made her way to the near by bar to get a cold soda. Jack Bauer did not hesitate to approach the young lady, nanti casanova, and engaged the lady in some warm conversation.
He later took her on a number of dates and consequently proposed to her. Sweet Nakii informed Jack Bauer that she could only agree to marry him if he proved that he was truly single. Jack Bauer laughed and showed her his hands and said, "..do you see a wedding ring?.." Sweet Nakii told him that that was not enough and that he had to provide a single status letter to prove he was not married to anyone. Jack Bauer was confused.

Yes, indeed it is. There truly is such a thing as a single status letter and it is legally provided for.
WHAT IS A SINGLE STATUS LETTER?
In simple terms, this is a letter that proves one's marital status is single and unmarried.
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING A SINGLE STATUS LETTER ? (FOR UGANDANS ONLY)
This is a letter confirming one's marital status. It is only issued to Ugandan citizens.
The applicant shows up before a Registrar of Marriages for an interview
He/she submits:
A recommendation letter from the LC 1 chairperson where the applicant resides
A photocopy of the long birth certificate to prove parentage
Proof of nationality for example a voter's card, passport or national identification card
A statutory declaration from the applicant to prove that he/she is single
A statutory declaration from the parent to prove that their son/daughter is single
One will part with a fee of 25,000/- Ugx as fees payable to obtain this letter.
WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF THE SINGLE STATUS LETTER?
For one, it helps you prove that you are not committing to marriage to someone else's spouse without your knowledge.
