Migrant sisters, 4 and 6, found alone at US-Mexico border

Border Patrol agents found two sisters from Honduras, ages 4 and 6, wandering alone in the Arizona desert with nothing but a note with their aunt’s name and address this week, officials said.

The girls were spotted Tuesday morning in a marshy area south of the Morelos Dam at the US-Mexico border, according to a Facebook post from the Border Patrol’s Yuma Sector.

“A Yuma Sector agent, concerned about their safety, quickly approached the young girls, and escorted them to safer terrain,” the post read.

Heartbreaking photos released by the agency showed the sisters in pink winter hats and matching shirts, holding a slip of paper officials said contained contact information for their “tia.”

A CBP officer can be seen in one of the images walking hand-in-hand with the children and escorting them away from the area, which officials said is a popular border crossing point for unaccompanied minor migrants.

“The girls were taken into custody and attempts will be made to reunite them with family,” the agency said.

The Post has reached out to the Yuma Station for further comment.

Border Patrol agents have encountered 130,710 unaccompanied migrant children across the southern border between October 2020 and Aug. 31 this year.

A record number of unaccompanied migrant kids have been picked up by Texas CBP agents this year, with nearly 21,000 encountered through Aug. 31, the agency said last month.
