{UAH} WHAT IS POLYGAMY?

WHAT IS POLYGAMY :

Many times, people misuse the word Polygamy to mean all situations including "side dishing". But Polygamy is legally defined.

Polygamy is defined as the practice or custom of having more than one lawfully wedded Wife at the same time. This means a man is said to be "Polygamous" if that man has two or more lawfully wedded wives.

In Uganda, this could occur under certain marriage types including Customary Marriage, Islamic Marriage, Hindu Marriage, Marriages under the Marriage of Africans Act. These Marriages are said to be "Potentially Polygamous".

BUT WHAT IF A WOMAN MARRIES MORE THAN ONE MAN:

This is defined as "Polyandry", but to the best of our knowledge, there's no law or custom in Uganda which allows for this practice.

In conclusion, being married but having a sexual partner (side dish, away match etc) to whom you are not married is not Polygamy, it's "Adultery", and could be a reason for Divorce.
