{UAH} The debate about Amin will never end.

By Kakooza , Kampala

The debate about Amin will never end. We know thay so many people were killed under the Amin regime, most of whom were actively, often clandestinely, but surely involved in trying to overthrow his regime and even physically eliminate him.
Even more were similarly killed during the Obote ll regime reportedly for enhahinh in rebel activities. rebel activities. I think it is absurd to compare numbers of victims of internecine conflicts to determine which regime was better than the years . It is being unkind to those that lost their lives.

A few years ago, journalist Timothy Kalyegira put up money (can't rember the sum) for anyone who gave him a list of 500 people killed by Amin. The popular story is that Amin killed 500, 000 people. His critics turned round and accused him of turning tragedy into a game of numbers

To me, the death of five innocent persons is tragedy enough, but let us try to bring ourselves to the facts. We people who claim to be educated, which I highly doubt, are a disaster when it comes to understanding historical and contemporary colonialism. Our collective imindset is the cause of Africa's tragedy. We cannot sit and analyze anything on our own. The worst form of colonialism is of the mind. We take everything thrown at us at its face value. Uou probably all remember the TV comedy "Mind your Language". You remember yhe Chinese girl who to every argument quickly replied "No no no, that's not true
Chairman Mao told us that that is true" or words to that effect. To her Chairman Mao was the alfa and omega of knowledge and information.

Unfortunately,  the Africsn "educated"en and women are worse that that character in Mind Uour Language. Our Chairman Mao is London, Paris and Wahington. They decide for us who is a good leader and the bad one. Those of us who are old saw most of these persons we are arguing over. Why are we disagreed on who did what? Because those who think for us want us to hate Amin, not because of what his regime did yo our people, but because of how he dealt with them and their interests. One of us says Amin did not build a single primary school!!!!!
In his shoes, what would have been your priority

I must state it plainly, when you loyalty serve them and their interests against those of your country and your people, they reward you handsomely,  including building you to look like angel even you are the devil personified. They protect you to the last

When your country's interests are at cross purposes with theirs, you must Fitch your country's and serve theirs whatever the suffering that may cause to your people. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Onote was put in power in 1962 by London. Those elections were rigged plain and simple, by a man called Peagram. We can go into the detail of this. Obote veered off his madter's agenda and was rives. The coup was ordered by London and was execute by Istraelis, not Amin. Amin was a reliable agent until he staggered away and spent the rest of his rule paying the price, mainly through bad press carried out by the powerful propaganda and intelligence serbices machinery in the world. Obote was forgiven and put back in power by Lomdon again. London stood by him until M7 was in Kpala and in power. So, you are judging those people not from what you know about hen,

Sorry for this long story. If Amin was a patriot who served his country's interests to the annoyance if our masters. He brought Africans into formal economy. Expropriation of foreign properties to redress the colonial wrong of uneven development was and is still perfectly legal in International and Municipal Law. Castro did it in Cuba, Malaysia did it under the Bumiputra progrmes, Zimbabwe did it, and Vhile did but Predident Allende was violently removed on the orders of President Nicon and Iran did in 1952 following which the CIA violently overthrew  popularly and democrayically elected  PM Mohammad Massadegh and replaced h with that Shall whose rule wS a million times more bloody than we have seen anywhere in Africa. Finally, Obote tried to do it through the nationalization programme through compulsory acquisition of 49% stake in all foreign enterprises. It is one of the reasons for which London ordered his removal in 2071. This nationalization  later turned out to be a huge windfall for those foreign interests.

For this debate, I cN provide more facts to show that Amin was a patriot.

DISCLAIMER: I have never had any interest direct or indirect in the Amin regime. In fact as a brainwashed young person, I was a rabbid hater of the regime. If I was older I would have been killed or fled the country.
