𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗗𝗿.𝗞𝗶𝘇𝘇𝗮 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝘆𝗲 , did they come to you to speak to you that you support Robert Kyagulanyi or Robert Kyagulanyi can support you and just have one candidate to represent. Is it true or not?, because in his statement he said, there was a time when they reached out to all of you in different capacities but there were mistrust and suspicions.

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?

The answer is simply no, but you see when you ask a yes or no question you run a risk but we had deep and comprehensive discussions about how to deal with the impending election.

Amongst which, as I have been telling you was wether an election itself even before you talk about a candidate was the best way or wether we need to organise differently. We had these conversations. I think it was around April of 2020.

We jointly formed what was called the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲. The United forces of change which we negotiated for quite some time was aimed at taking some actions that can cause change apart from elections/ outside elections but as I have pointed out i think the focus of the people and not just in the NUP but also in FDC and other parties were focused on the elections.

Because you see part of the problem, elections are very subversive actually to getting change. The reason is that with the economic problems we talked about earlier, Political posts/jobs are now the most paying jobs in the country.

A Member of Parliament earns about five (5) times more than what a medical consultant earns and gets free fuel, a vehicle worth 200 Million when Medical Doctors are on foot.

So, because they have created these political jobs as dangling attractions, many of our people get diverted between focusing on ending the regime or occupying these lucrative positions within the regime.

And that makes it very difficult especially if you are near an election.

It makes it very difficult to focus people to work for the end of the Military rule  outside elections.

Many people cannot easily see how they can get diverted from fighting to occupy a seat in Parliament, become a mayor, a Councillor, all these things that are very attractive.

So although we had discussions about how to deal with 2021 elections, the greatest majority of people in all parties not just in the NUP but also others were not very interested in this discussion.

And that's why for me, I pulled back completely and let that motion first be completed because I understood even before the pandemic which made it more complicated that it would end the way it has ended before.

There was nothing at all that was different.
