Events promoter Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi has said that Robert Kyagulanyi is slated to perform at first son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba's 48th birthday which is scheduled to take place on April 28.
"Of the artistes expected to perform, Bobi Wine is one of them. Bobi Wine will perform at the General's birthday. He will come and sing for the president," Balaam says.
Balaam seemed to be taking a dig at the National Unity Platform (NUP) principal who unsuccessfully contested the presidency with President Museveni in the 2021 general election. These remarks feed into the general rumor that President Museveni is planning to have his son Muhoozi succeed him as president, especially when Balaam refers to Muhoozi as 'president'.
"Yes, I will send him and card, and I will pay him. I will pay him and will come and perform. I want him to be one of the performers. He's a good performer. I like his music but when it comes to politics, I support Muhoozi," Balaam adds.
The NUP principal has not performed in the last four years as he got intensely involved with national politics on top of blockades by government against his musical performances.
Bobi Wine won over a large section of the public in 2016 when he turned down a chance to perform in president Museveni's campaign song, 'Tubonga Naawe', while all the big names in the industry smiled to the bank.
Public sentiment
In 2017, when the Kyadondo East parliamentary seat fell vacant after court nullified the election of Apollo Kantinti, Bobi Wine contested in the by-election and won with a landslide. It was clear from the onset that his support was not just from Kyadondo East but from across the country. That is how he rose to the level of contesting the presidency of the country.
To several observers, Balaam's invitation to Bobi Wine, in view of the latter's performances having been previously restricted, is a veiled way of Balaam thumbing his nose at the NUP leader.
