{UAH} What do you think of this amazing crown of Kabaka Mutesa II of Buganda
What do you think of this amazing crown of Kabaka Mutesa II of Buganda
The crown was designed and made in 1939, by the London court jeweller Garrard, for the King of Buganda. During the military coup in 1966, the palace of the King, who at that moment was also president of the federal republic of Uganda, was plundered by the soldiers of Idi Amin. Since then, the crown has disappeared without a trace.
For the coronation of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi ll in 1993, the Dutch goldsmith René Brus was given the assignment to make a replica of this lost crown. Ultimately the King was crowned on 31st July, with a traditional crown decorated with diamond glass beads.
In the Diamond Museum Amsterdam, you can admire the replica of this impressive crown, made of gilded silver, citrine, cubic zirconia, synthetic spinel, silk and feathers.
