{UAH} A GREAT LOT TO LEARN FROM THE OMORO BY-ELECTION !

Yes, it's finished! NUP's Hon Mr Simon Toolit Akecha has had his victory
almost stolen away by a determined machinery which prompts every Ugandan
to think of future plans for a thorough profound constitutional reform that will enable the
country to move on as a respected nation with a mature leadership, and not a bayaaye
headship! We are all determined on this point. To hell with any very silly idiocy that
makes all constitutional exercises look cheap and kangaroosque! Ugandans are people
who command love and respect worldwide, and it's just very unfortunate to witness what
happened in Omoro where not a single norm of civility was applied by the authorities in question to ensure some degree of patriotism in a mere by-election! The so-called Electoral Commission was there to prove its irrelevance as it couldn't engage a mastery control on what must be its duty and imperative obligation. The security forces, unpaid for six consecutive months, were there to act as cassava bidders for their oppressive masters. The RDCs who flocked there in dozens were being seen as mere empty bottles with no relevance at all, at all, at all, as to the constitutional exercise taking place in Omoro. RDCs stooped so low before the very highly respected population of Omoro.Useless fellows!! A good number of them were reportedly caught in a nearby bush / forest shaming innocence with pre-ticked ballot papers!!! Does a by-election in a given constituency need flocks of RDCs from various parts of the country ? And for what purpose apart from ensuring the rigging as it happened in Omoro and previously in Kayunga? These RDCs are officials who are seen as very low substitutes for anything sensible! All these are among those points which have enabled the young NUP to turn into a very formidable political institution which will one day lead the country!!  Just look at the maturity they exposed in Omoro and how the masses there accepted them, seeing them as the elderly mature lot compared to the NRM old fogeys whose behaviour was so infantile and immature! No wonder the people of Omoro decided to abandon their rallies. Moneyless NUP, still mourning its recent deaths and still agonizing for those in hospital and the hundreds (including two prominent MPs ) in detention centres and regularly under open threat from the brutal security forces, was able to stage a very exemplary campaign which attracted lots of mammoth crowds everywhere, and the enthusiasm was very warmly brotherly and extra-friendly!
NRM, very dull from the very beginning, had to resort to their traditional methods of thieving, cheating, corrupting using taxpayers' money in an area where nothing very spectacular has ever been constructed! People there are wallowing in deep poverty and that's one of the reasons why they massively opted for Toolit's candidature as they saw in this politician someone who was ready to fight very energetically for them. Another good occasion will rise for Omoro and for the entire Acholiland to enjoy Toolit's sense of determination.Acholiland has got very many of such serious-minded intelligent people who will do a lot for their region and for the country.
Omoro was a blessing to Kyagulanyi and his nascent party. Thanks to their foresighted wisdom in approach to these campaigns they have succeeded in getting endeared to the people of Acholi. The very mighty cheers that welcomed them everywhere were indeed a good proof that Museveni and his NRM were a reject in Acholiland. And I now have a pitiful thought for Mzee Okori, Oulanyah's dad, and for his grandson, NRM candidate Ojok Andrew Oulanyah who was declared winner, for what one may anticipate as an era leading to an unfortunate epoch. This humble family is going to be senselessly used as a risky political card that will bring no sound benefit to them.
As for NUP, most observers are very grateful for the party's willingness to participate in this election. It's not all that easy to stand where fraud and open cheating are on programme. Nevertheless young NUP exhibited courage, maturity, and fraternal patriotism in going to Omoro to show the poor humble citizens there that the party was with them and was ready to study their plight and very bad living conditions in order to help articulate everything in favour of an enviable solution. NUP, just as the people of Omoro, was cheated but NUP, on the other hand, were the true winners of the polls! Everyone in Omoro was able to see for himself / herself the icons of that young generation of very clean intelligent politicians who will soon one day replace
the ailing, aging, dull and brutal lot who have no smart legacy to leave behind!
G.H.K.
