{UAH} It was wrong to expell Asians

By Kelly Wanda

Let me say this about the Asian and later western culture expulsion that was intended to put the economy in the hands of Ugandans. Idi Amin didn't understand the dynamics of global trade, investment and control. He was probably angered and eager to win over populist support. Consider the following facts.

 1. If you compare Uganda and Kenya, what is your take. Many of u say Kenya is ahead. Why? Its precisely because they had that Asian and western investment that brought in technology and capital. They would collect more revenue. The trouble would be how to use the social surplus. Therefore Idi Amin would have used the tax revenues to support Africans in biz🤷🏻‍♂️ That takes me to the second point.

 2. It's not true that there were no Africans doing biz successfully. Yes they were few. My late dad started his college in 1955 in Mbale town. And hear this. He was employing Asians. The college was known as Elgon Tutorial College. There were a few others. These would have grown. You must first build your mind set and discipline before you run biz!! That opportunity was lost at great cost to the country!!! Even this grabbing culture was accelerated there!!

No doubt the economic downward trend started there!!!! By the way, the mess you see today with garbage littered in urban areas has its roots there!!!!

 3. Asian and western expertise went beyond just biz! That knowledge transfer was cut. Look. Yes Africans were like third citizens. But that was so and could be justified because the rulers were colonialists. With Africans on top in leadership controlling the social surplus, they should have effected a smooth transformation of blacks!!!! Not get us every tom hurry and dick at the expense of our economic infrastructures!!!!!
