Tragedy On The Mexico Border: 37 Dead And Dozens Injured In Deadly Fire At Migrant Processing Center

Early on Tuesday morning, tragedy struck the migrant processing center near the Stanton International Bridge at Ciudad Juárez, on the U.S.-Mexico border, when a deadly fire claimed the lives of at least 37 people and left dozens more injured.

According to two local government rescue sources who spoke to Reuters news agency, the death toll is expected to grow throughout the day. El Diario and El Heraldo have also reported the number of fatalities, while around 40 people were evacuated from the area and taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Although the cause of the fire has yet to be released, local newspapers reported that a disturbance occurred inside the center just before the blaze broke out a few minutes before midnight, as reported by the BBC. Photographs released by Reuters reveal several bodies covered in foil blankets lying outside the facility. In response to the incident, Mexico’s attorney general’s office has launched a thorough investigation, with investigators on the scene.

Ciudad Juarez, neighboring El Paso, Texas, is one of the many border towns where undocumented migrants wait before attempting to cross into the U.S., as reported by Breitbart News. The incident is a stark reminder of the dangers migrants face when attempting to enter the U.S. The tragedy has left many hearts broken, and the true consequences of this deadly fire are yet to be fully understood.
