{UAH} DO OUR INTELLECTUALS HAVE A VISION FOR UGANDA?

Mr. Robert Kabushenga's Twiter space interview with reknown professor Mahmoud Mamdani was an eye opener about the thinking of Uganda's elites. First, what was supposed to be a discussion about Uganda's future political transition where one was expecting talk about MK project, Bobi Wine, FDC, NRM, the role of legacy political parties, human rights, current political demographics, the economy, relations with development partners, poverty eradication, the East African Community, the African Free Trade area, and the issues of today's generation of Ugandans, instead the discussion became entirely about Uganda's past (and with glaring key innacuracies). It is only in the dying minutes of the interview that they tried to discuss the way forward but still failed to formulate any coherent thinking even then. It was quite telling that there was no debate about the sovereignty of the will of the people determining what direction Uganda takes. Clearly Ugandan intellectuals actually believe in interest groups organising and engineering schemes for power by hook or crook based on tribe, guns, religion, race or ethnicity, and they actually have little interest in what the people actually think. It seemed as if true democracy for the people, and by the people, is just something our intellectual friends are glad to see on paper, but they are not interested in building, nor interested in advocating for. In fact, I found it hilarious that they didn't even mention the word democracy in the entire 2 hour interview.
