{UAH} HOW SHOULD WE REMEMBER OUR GOOD LEADERS IN UGANDA, TOO?
My sister and I were touring the Lincoln memorial, Washington monument, etc, in Washington DC yesterday
1. I learnt that the proposed location of the Lincoln memorial was originally a swamp frequented by swindlers, prostitutes and robbers.
2. The Memorial was almost not built because of opposition by then Speaker of Parliament, the Democratic Speaker of the House, Joe Cannon. He ruled the House with an iron fist. He repeatedly blocked efforts to construct the National Mall and the Lincoln Memorial.
3. 36 States were in the Union when Lincoln took office on 3/4/1861. There are 36 pillars adorning the outside.
4. There are 87 steps one must climb to go in to the Memorial.
It's a memorable building and I'm glad I took my time around the place. If you stand on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and point 45 degrees to the left, you are pointing towards the Viet Nam Memorial, through the trees. It was interesting to see all the names of those that died scribbled down on the wall.
Oba fe eUganda, how do we remember our fighters and good presidents?
