14-year-old girl on the run after stabbing father to death in Uganda

Police in Uganda are searching for a 14-year-old girl accused of stabbing her father to death.

The incident took place in Oyam district.

It is alleged that the deceased returned home drunk at around 3pm on Tuesday.

"He found his wife in bed with the daughter and this led to an argument with his lover before it escalated into a fight," police said.

The girl, who is now at large, then took a knife and stabbed the father in the thigh around his genitals.

"This caused him to bleed profusely. In the process, the victim tried to run out but collapsed in the compound and died," authorities said.

The deceased's landlord, rushed to the police and reported the matter.

North Kyoga regional police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema said a team of officers from Oyam Central Police Station joined the Loro police and visited the scene.

"The body of the deceased was collected and taken to Anyeke Health Centre IV, Oyam District for post-mortem examination," he said in a statement.

"Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect," he said, while condemning the incident.

He added: "This is a very unfortunate incident. We appeal to children not to get involved in their parents' affairs. Instead, seek help from the neighbourhood by raising the alarm".
