Tragic Death In Biden's Migrant Detention Center: Young Mother Dies Mysteriously After Crossing Border

A 29-year-old Honduran mother of two has tragically died while in the custody of a migrant detention center under the Biden administration.

The woman crossed the border from Mexico into Texas and was found unresponsive in her cell. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials are currently investigating the cause of her death.

According to CBP officials, the woman had no apparent illnesses or medical conditions at multiple medical screenings during her time in custody. However, the exact cause of her death remains unknown. CBP's Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is reviewing agency records and video footage to determine the events leading up to her passing.

The woman, along with her two children aged four and six, crossed the border illegally between the Hidalgo and Anzalduas Ports of Entry. They were apprehended by McAllen Station agents on Sunday, August 27, at around 8:30 p.m. The group was then transported to the Donna, Texas, Processing Center, where they completed processing at approximately 11 p.m. that night.

On Monday, August 28, the woman and her children were transported from the Donna Processing Facility to the Harlingen Border Patrol Station for further processing. They arrived at the station at 8:02 a.m. along with approximately 40 other noncitizens. The woman underwent a medical screening conducted by a CBP-contracted EMT-Basic. Video footage shows that she did not express any concerns or appear to be in distress during the screening process.

After the medical screening, the woman and her children entered a cell at around 8:25 a.m. with approximately 34 other noncitizens. Throughout the day, Border Patrol agents conducted visual checks on the woman, looking into the window of her cell at various intervals. At approximately 3:58 p.m., when the noncitizens were being given their meals, a female noncitizen called out to the agents. They entered the cell and discovered the woman unresponsive.

CBP personnel immediately checked her vital signs, initiated CPR, and applied an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Despite their efforts, the woman could not be revived. Emergency medical services were called, and she was officially declared deceased at Valley Baptist Medical Center at 4:50 p.m.

The woman's cellmate stated that they did not observe her being in medical distress prior to her being found unresponsive. They immediately alerted Border Patrol officials for assistance.

The Cameron County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy on August 30, but the results have not yet been released. The incident is currently under investigation by the CBP Office of Professional Responsibility, and the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General has been notified.

CBP Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner, Troy Miller, expressed condolences and emphasized the agency's commitment to the health and safety of individuals in their custody. Miller stated that CBP will continue to evaluate detention and medical procedures to ensure the best possible care for those in their custody.

The incident highlights the challenges faced by CBP officials due to the massive increase in Family Unit apprehensions in recent months. Border Patrol agents have been averaging approximately 20,000 migrants in custody each day, leading to overcrowding in processing centers. The situation has been exacerbated by the Rio Grande Valley Sector apprehending approximately 1,500 migrants per day in August.

As CBP continues to investigate this tragic incident, they are committed to transparency and accountability. The results of the OPR investigation will be made public, and additional steps will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of those in their custody.
