{UAH} THEY ANTICIPATED A SPECIAL GUEST NOT KNOWING IT WILL BE BARRACK OBAMA
Behind Closed Doors: Obama's DESPERATE Attempt To Rally Influencers For Biden
In a surprising move, former President Barack Obama recently held a meeting with a group of social media influencers, urging them to soften their stance towards President Joe Biden and aid him in his reelection campaign.
As reported by the Daily Mail, the influencers were anticipating a 'special guest' but were unaware that Obama would be the one gracing the occasion.
Upon his entrance, Obama humorously remarked, "So, I heard this is where the cool kids were hanging out, and you know, I always wanted to be one of the cool kids." His light-hearted demeanor, however, soon gave way to a more serious tone as he acknowledged the 'cynical time' in politics that has led to viewers becoming disillusioned with the current political discourse in America.
"I need you guys to use your influence, and it doesn't have to be boring. I don't expect you to have a bunch of charts and graphs," Obama implored the influencers. The former president's meeting, which included around 80 different social media influencers, was a clear call to action for them to get involved in the political landscape.
Obama, understanding the appeal of entertainment, admitted, "I get it. You know, I frankly watch sports, mostly. Because it feels like everything is slash and burn." He encouraged the digital creators to put aside their differences with Biden, reminding them that politics is often 'messy.'
"Joe Biden, you may not agree with everything he does," he said. "By the way, you didn't agree with everything I did. And that's OK. Because in a big, messy, complicated country like this, there are going to be disagreements."
The former president further encouraged the influencers to employ creativity and humor to garner more support for Biden. "I understand folks are swiping or scrolling, and you've got to use humor and you've got to use other things that are engaging people," he advised.
However, the Biden administration has faced significant backlash from top influencers, particularly on TikTok, for supporting the Israeli war in Gaza and for signing a bill that could potentially ban the popular video-sharing app. Despite the administration's attempts to reach out to more influencers through hosting parties and events, they have been met with lukewarm responses and even hostility.
Obama, who was one of the first presidents to leverage the power of social media during his presidential campaign, has since shown a keen interest in influencing the influencers. In 2017, he met with young activists and attributed Clinton's loss to Trump to the latter's allies' effective use of social media to shift the political narrative.
"The question is: Are you able to do that in reverse but to things that are true and are not designed simply to churn anger and resentment and frustration?" he asked the influencers. "So solve that, will you?" he added with a chuckle.
In 2022, Obama criticized social media companies for not doing enough to censor information on their platforms. "The First Amendment is a check on the power of the state. It doesn't apply to private companies like Facebook and Twitter," he argued, calling for more 'value judgements' on content moderation and censorship on social media. He expressed concern that without such measures, "over time we lose our capacity to distinguish between fact, opinion, and wholesale fiction. Or maybe we just stop caring."
Obama's recent meeting with social media influencers underscores his belief in their potential to shape political discourse. As the former president continues to advocate for a more engaging and less divisive political landscape, it remains to be seen how these influencers will respond to his call to action.
