In a recent development, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents apprehended a Palestinian man, Omar Shehada, who was listed on a terror watchlist for an alleged previous incident involving "explosives/firearms."

The 35-year-old was detained at the Santa Teresa, New Mexico border, as reported by The Post Millennial. Shehada had embarked on his journey to the U.S. from Madrid, Spain in July, making stops in Bogota, Panama City, and San Salvador before reaching the U.S.-Mexico border. The CBP has yet to disclose the terrorist organization to which Shehada is purportedly linked. Pending deportation, Shehada will remain in custody.

This incident follows the recent capture of three other suspected Palestinian terrorists at the California border, according to The Post Millennial. One of the suspects was found in possession of "salacious photos," including an image of a masked man wielding an AK-47 rifle. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East appears to have intensified attempts by terrorists to infiltrate the U.S. via its vulnerable southern border.

A CBP alert issued in 2023, following an attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists, cautioned that Palestinian terrorists might attempt to enter the U.S. The alert stated, "Individuals inspired by, or reacting to the current Israel-Hamas conflict may attempt travel to or from the area of hostilities in the Middle East via circuitous transit across the Southwest border.”

The issue of suspected terrorists attempting to illegally enter the U.S. has been a recurring concern under the Biden-Harris administration. During Vice President Kamala Harris's tenure as border czar, 99 illegal immigrants on the terror watchlist were admitted into the U.S.. The fiscal year 2023 also set a new record for the number of individuals on the FBI terror watchlist attempting to enter the U.S., with 151 encounters. This figure surpasses the combined total of the previous six years. The Biden administration has even released a suspect on the terror watchlist into the US on two occasions.

Data from the CBP reveals a significant increase in the apprehension of suspected terrorists under the current administration. Between October 2016 and September 2021, CBP agents intercepted 26 suspected terrorists. However, during the subsequent two years, the figures rose to 98 and 169 respectively. From October 2023 to June 2024 alone, 93 suspected terrorists have been arrested. This escalating trend underscores the urgent need for robust border security measures to safeguard national security.
