{UAH} TOM MBOYA CLAN (Wayugu )

The Wayugu  reached the present day Kenya from Uganda  in the late 17th Century. And since they were fishermen  they settled around  Lake Victoria  in  Central Nyanza .

When the Luo came and occupied the lakeshore, the Wayugu became completely assimilated into the Luo.  Others  would later move  to settle on Oyamo Island in Lake Victoria,   from where they frequently visited Rusinga Island  for trade and fishing

Because  of these regular visits, some of them  came to like  Rusinga and decided to settle there amongst the Kamasengre. During the course of time, a young Wayugu  man called Nyodina married  a young lady from Kamasengre   called Nyamuluga the sister of Oganga.

After a period of time, Nyodina  and his new wife together with  other  Wayugu  left Kamasengre in Rusinga   and returned   to Oyamo Island in Lake Victoria .

Just after  the group's   return   to Oyamo,  the Island  was hit  by a serious  outbreak   of sleeping  sickness  that killed many people. As a result,  some   Wayugu fled   to Sakwa Bondo , some to Uyoma and some  to Asembo .

Meanwhile  back in  Rusinga  ,  Oganga was very much concerned   about his sister Nyamuluga and  brother-in-law Nyodina. Fearing that his sister and her family might also be killed by sleeping sickness in Oyamo Island, Oganga sent his children to go and persuade them to come to Rusinga Island.

The couple agreed , and  left for   Rusinga Island,  with three children. Owuor, Ofuko and Ochieng.

In Rusinga, Ochieng married a Waembe girl and they had two children  Ounga and Suspita Ochieng;  Ofuko  had  a son called Otwal Malowa;  Owuor fathered  Lewnadus Ndiege who fathered Tom Mboya.
