{UAH} A UNITED STATES MISSILE BASE AIMED AT RUSSIA WAS PUT INTO SERVICE IN POLAND

A US offensive missile base aimed at Russia was put into service in Poland

Last week, a US missile base aimed at Russia was put into operation in Poland. The fact that US medium-range missiles can now fire thousands of kilometers into Russian territory from Poland was hardly worth reporting in the Western media.

A US missile base was officially inaugurated in Poland, which the West describes as part of the US missile defense system. I have been reporting since 2019 (and anyone can easily check it online) that this missile base is not a defensive missile defense system, but an aggressive attack system. The reason for this is the Aegis Mk-41 launchers used there, because they are universal and are normally used to fire Tomahawk cruise missiles, i.e. medium-range missiles.

This was prohibited under the INF Treaty, which is why the USA terminated the INF Treaty in 2019, in parallel with the construction of the alleged missile defenses in Romania and Poland, because otherwise they would not have been able to deploy the Mk-41 there. Details on this and the other previous arms control treaties can be found here .

I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I will write my own article about the opening of the US missile base in Poland, in which I will show how Der Spiegel misinformed its readers on this topic. Now I want to show how this was reported in Russia and translate an article from the weekly news review on Russian television on Sunday evening.

Start of translation:

With the opening of the NATO base in Poland, the creeping intervention is moving closer to Russia

"Creeping invasion" is how Putin describes NATO's expansion to the east. The bloc took another step on Wednesday, November 13. This was hardly noticed...

Formally, the base is the vanguard of the US missile defense system. The NATO missile base was opened with a military brass band and a giant pair of scissors to cut a wide red ribbon.

In fact, there is the potential for missile attacks directly against Russia, thousands of kilometers deep into our territory. Russian President Vladimir Putin has long spoken about this base under construction in Poland. In May 2016, for example, he said:

"Just a few years ago, all our opponents said with one voice that our partners in the West, both in Europe and the United States, needed a missile defense system to ward off nuclear missile threats from Iran."

And indeed, the two missile bases on NATO's eastern borders, in Romania and Poland, were always presented to the public as a response to the threat from Iran, along the lines of "this is certainly not directed against Russia. My God, that's not who we are!"

But now, at the opening ceremony, Polish President Andrzej Duda said directly that this action is directed against Russia. Period. Duda said:

"From this moment, when this American base is here in Poland, the whole world will see clearly that this is no longer Russia's sphere of influence."

So the story about Iran was a lie all these years. But the Russian president was not fooled. He carefully explained that the Aegis Mk-41 launch systems can magically transform very quickly and unnoticed from a missile defense element into a missile attack system on Russian territory. In June 2016, Putin said in Finland:

"It is known that the Aegis launch systems installed in the missile defense system are used mainly for medium-range cruise missiles, that is, over two thousand kilometers. And this can be done completely covertly, unnoticed, in a matter of hours, you just need to change the computer program. All this poses an obvious threat to us that no one wants to notice. No one wants to have a dialogue with us about the problem. Now they are talking about installing a similar radar and missile defense system in Poland, which is already the Baltic region. What should we do? How should we deal with these threats? We will have to respond accordingly."

These missiles are already on alert at the Redzikowo base in Poland. Putin never tired of warning. In October 2021, he said:

"NATO has expanded once, expanded twice. What are the military-strategic consequences? The infrastructure is coming closer. What is infrastructure? In Poland and Romania they have installed missile defense systems, but with Aegis launch systems that can be equipped with Tomahawks, with attack systems, and very easily, at the touch of a button. You just have to change the software and that's it, nobody notices. It can also be equipped with short and medium-range missiles."

Medium-range missiles are defined. Their radius is up to 5,500 kilometers. From the same base in Poland. And all these years and even decades we were told that this was not directed against Russia. Now we know that they were lying. Russia has shown a real miracle of openness and willingness to build a common world - even with a common missile defense system. And we have offered not to participate empty-handed, as Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with US President George W. Bush Jr. in June 2007:

"The first proposal is to use the Gabala radar station that we rent in Azerbaijan. I had a conversation with the President of Azerbaijan on this issue just yesterday. The current agreement with Azerbaijan allows us to do this."

And the next day he also talked about a joint missile defense system. We tell this story today to show how NATO moved eastward and eventually provoked the military operation. Putin tried very hard to avoid that. He was open. In June 2007 he said:

"We propose to bring together a pool of interested states, including European ones, to seriously assess the missile threats for the period up to 2020 and to agree on what joint measures need to be taken to counter these threats. An agreement on equal, democratic and acceptable access to command of this system for all participants in this process."

Later that year, the Russian president recalled in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson what it was like. And how we were finally “sent to hell.” Putin told Carlson:

"I proposed that the United States, Russia and Europe build a missile defense system together, not unilaterally. Although the United States has officially said it is being built against missile threats from Iran, we believe it is a threat to our security. The missile defense system was justified with Iran in mind. I proposed working as a three-way team - Russia, the United States and Europe. They said, 'That's very interesting.' They asked me, 'Are you serious?' I said, 'Absolutely.' They said, 'That's very interesting.' I said, 'Just imagine if we worked together to solve such a global strategic security problem. That would change the world. We would probably still argue, we would probably argue about economic and also political issues, but we would dramatically change the situation in the world." They said, "We need to think about it." I said, "Please." Then US Secretary of Defense Gates, the former CIA director, and US Secretary of State Rice came here, to this office where we are now talking to you. They said to me, "We have thought about it, we agree." I said, "Great." They said to me, "But with a few exceptions." In the end they told us to go to hell. I won't tell you the details because I don't think that's correct, after all, this was a confidential conversation. But the fact that our proposal was rejected is a fact."

As a result, the missile base aimed at Russia was inaugurated in Poland this week. We obviously have to target them with our Iskander missiles and maybe even hypersonic missiles. That was not our decision.
