Russian collusion hoaxer Adam Schiff called on the Senate to reject President-elect Donald Trump's nomination of Kash Patel to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Schiff has a years-long feud with Patel, who has played a key role in exposing abuses within federal intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
Patel has helped expose that officials in the outgoing Obama administration had "unmasked" the identities of Americans caught on foreign wiretaps.
This led to the subsequent firing of Trump's first National Security Advisor, Mike Flynn, over now-discredited allegations of collusion with Russia.
Schiff attempted to counter Republican claims that the FBI had abused the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to surveil Carter Page.
Later, a Department of Justice Inspector General report later validated Republican concerns and confirmed the FBI did indeed mislead the FISA court during its investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Democrats attempted to tie Patel to Rudy Giuliani, suggesting Patel acted as a "back channel" for the Trump administration.
However, such claims failed to produce evidence of wrongdoing.
Tensions between Patel and Schiff deepened during the House's January 6 Committee investigation.
Patel was targeted for his alleged connections to Trump's inner circle, and despite no evidence of illegal activity being found, the committee delayed releasing Patel's interview transcript, which thus prompted accusations of bias and a lack of transparency.
Now Schiff is slamming Patel's nomination calling it a threat to the FBI's independence.
Patel vowed he would root out corruption within the FBI and hold those accountable who violated laws to undermine Trump's presidency.
Patel has previously called for investigations into individuals he labelled "conspirators" who abused government powers during the Trump administration, which could include Schiff himself, who misled the public about the now debunked Russian "collusion" and mishandling evidence collected by the January 6 Committee.
