{UAH} Khuram Shazad Butt: Everything known so far about London terror attack ringleader

Frank Mujabi,

The most intriguing thing about this London Bridge atrocity is that it is committed by the same group that I have been writing about for years. The police know them and I cant understand why they allowed this Khuram Butt to slip through their fingers. These are terrorists who were brainwashed by Anjem Choudary, the radical lawyer-imam from East London who is now serving a jail term for terrorism. His other recruits are Trevor Brooks aka Abu Izzaddeen and the Woolwich butchers, the Nigerian muslim converts Adebolajo and Adebowale. I engaged in a bitter public debate with them around 2010-2015. I left  Woolwich after they started to issue death threats against those of us who oppose their violent ideology. This Khuram Butt must have been very young at the time, but from what I have read in his profile, he must have been in the gang that Arjem Choudary usually brought along with him in public debates.I have copied and pasted their Google profiles below. You can not believe that Adebolajo was actually captured by the Kenyan security when trying to join Al Shabaab and deported to the UK, and then bizarrely was set free. I understand M15 tried to turn him into an informer- thats why they released him- but look at how it all turned out?

The Evening Standard

Seven people were killed when terrorist Khuram Shazad Butt and two accomplices mowed pedestrians down on London Bridge and stabbed people in Borough Market.

The 27-year-old, of Barking in east London, is believed to have led the trio during the horrific attack on Saturday night that also left 48 people injured.

Butt was known to police and the security services and was the subject of an MI5 inquiry which started in the summer of 2015.

After the investigation was launched a call was made to the police anti-terrorist hotline alleging he had extremist views.

However, there was no evidence or intelligence that he was planning an attack and his importance was downgraded.

A second man, 30-year-old Moroccan-Libyan Rachid Redouane, was named by police as one of the other two attackers while a third, who has not yet been named, is not a UK citizen.

All three were shot dead by armed police in the Borough Market area, just eight minutes after launching the attack.

Early life

Butt was born in April 1990 in Jhelum, Pakinstan, before moving to London with his family as a child refugee and settling in Barking, east London.

All three were shot dead by armed police in the Borough Market area, just eight minutes after launching the attack.

Early life

Butt was born in April 1990 in Jhelum, Pakinstan, before moving to London with his family as a child refugee and settling in Barking, east London.

As a young boy he attended Shaftesbury Primary School in Newham, before going on to Stratford Academy in Forest Gate.

A former family friend told the Daily Mail he was "a cheeky chappie".

However he is believed to have been sent on the path towards carrying out the London atrocity after the sudden death of his father, Saif, in 2003.

Saif was reportedly well-liked by neighbours and worked selling fruit and veg at stall in Queen's Market in Upton Park.

Butt became "really mouthy", "naughty" and "argumentative" in his teenage years, the Mail reported.

He later studied at Newham Sixth Form before gaining NVQ in business administration in 2009, and diploma in teaching English as a foreign language.

He started working at an admin office of fast-food chain KFC aged 22, and around that time is said to have taken part in an arranged marriage in Chigwell, Essex.

A year ago he started work as a customer services assistant on the London Underground.

Extremism

The 27-year-old was known to the police and MI5 and was the subject of an investigation in 2015.

He is alleged to have been an associate of the hate preacher Anjem Choudary and appeared in a 2016 Channel 4 documentary about British Islamic extremists, The Jihadis Next Door.

He was once thrown out of a mosque for interrupting an imam's sermon and verbally attacked an anti-extremism campaigner.

Mohammed Shafiq, chief executive of the Ramadhan Foundation, said Butt called him a "Murtad" - traitor in Arabic - when he confronted Choudary about his support of terrorism days after the murder of Lee Rigby in 2013.

The Jabir Bin Zayid Islamic Centre, where Butt occasionally worshipped, said that "some years ago after interrupting a Friday sermon he was asked to leave the mosque".

Father and neighbour

Residents at a block of flats in Barking - where a number of arrests were made on Sunday - said they recognised the attacker and that he had lived in the area for around three years.

He was known locally as "Abs" and was identified by neighbours as the terrorist in a photo which showed him crumpled on the ground after being shot by armed police.

Butt was father to a toddler and baby and a keen gym-goer and weightlifter, neighbours said.

Transport for London confirmed he worked for London Underground as a trainee customer services assistant for six months before leaving in October 2016.

Butt was reported to anti-terror police over fears he was attempting to radicalise schoolchildren, according to reports.

Housewife Erica Gasparri, 42, told The Times she had reported the suspect to police last year after challenging him in a park near a school.

A friend told the BBC Asian Network he had reported him to the anti-terror hotline after he began expressing increasingly radical views and justifying terror attacks, but the friend said he was never arrested.

One acquaintance, who said the man was a "wonderful guy", recalled the man playing football in the park with him and his children.

The attack

Police said he had appeared on the radar of security services but was in "the lower echelons of our investigative work".

A neighbour, Ken Chigbo, claimed the attacker, wearing the same Arsenal shirt, had come to ask him about hiring a van hours before the atrocity.

He told Sky News: "He said to me, 'Oh, where did you get your van, Ken? How much is it, is it possible to get in automatic?' - all these specific questions about the van, which obviously now makes sense in my head.

Reports on Monday night suggested the three terrorists did a "dry run" in the minutes before they mowed down pedestrians on London Bridge.

Their van was caught on CCTV travelling across the bridge nine minutes before the attack, reportedly allowing them to scope out police presence, traffic, and the potential for mass casualties.
