Sick teacher bites a hamster to death and swallows it in front of his pupils to teach them 'the value of life' after catching them taunting the animals in South Korea

A warped teacher in South Korea bit a hamster to death and swallowed it in front of his pupils in a sick attempt to teach them the value of life.

The man, named only as Yu, said he wanted to show the children 'how dear life is' after catching them teasing the animals.

Bizarrely, he also claimed he was motivated by his fear of rats after one bit him when he was a child.

He was arrested by police for child abuse and has since left the boarding school in Jeongeup, North Jeolla Province, after a protest by other teachers, it was reported by The Korea Times.

The 44-year-old told Yonhap News Agency that he was angry after learning that the children had been taunting hamsters.

He said: 'I couldn't control the situation and couldn't stand it.

'While watching the hamsters die from teasing, I thought I should teach the children it was wrong to make light of life.'

Yu attended Jeongeup Police Station where he was booked for child abuse.

He later apologised to the children, parents and other teachers, adding that he would not have eaten the hamster if he knew it would be considered child abuse.
