A Philippines hotel and resort complex is in lockdown following a reported attack by at least one gunman.

Police, fire engines and a SWAT team in body armour were in the area around Resorts World in Manila, according to CNN Philippines.

The Manila Standard reported that masked, armed men had attacked the hotel in the Pasay City area.

It said some victims had suffered severe gunshot wounds.

Resorts World Manila said on Twitter: "Resorts World Manila is currently on lockdown following reports of gunfire from unidentified men.

"The company is working closely with the Philippine National Police to ensure that all guests and employees are safe. We ask for your prayers during these difficult times."

Local journalist April Chang shared this Facebook video from the scene.

A source at one of the resorts told Reuters employees were being evacuated and declined to give more details. He said police were now in full control of the situation.

NBC News cited a source as saying "there are quite a few injuries".

Over the last week militants allied to Isis have engaged in street battles with the army leaving more than 100 people dead.

It was sparked by the attempted capture of a top militant leader by the army.
